About Us
Centre for Ecumenical Studies
The vision of CES is to serve the ecumenical movement as a catalyst,
as an international think tank,
as a global ecumenical network hub,
and as a theological bridge between Korean ecumenism and the ecumenism in the Global South.
Our Story
Centre for Ecumenical Studies (CES) was organized in July 2012 as Korea Institute for Future Ecumenism (KIFE) by a group of Korean ecumenical theologians, activists, and pastors who have been deeply involved in the local and global ecumenical movement and who are deeply committed to building a new, transformative ecumenism inthe 21st century. Globally known as KIFE, the institutewas renameind CES in 2018 to broaden the ownership and strategically plan its work.
CES (former KIFE) formed an International Core Group to plan, organize and steer the International Theological Colloquium and held four colloquia: First in Seoul, Korea, second in Manila, Philippine, third in Moshi, Tanzania, and fourth in Tokyo, Japan seeking to develop a transformative ecumenical theology and present a projection of the future direction of the global ecumenical movement. Through these colloquia we present the Transformative Ecumenism (TE).
